  • What does it all mean?

    Ayi

    阿姨 [ayi] literally means “auntie” in Chinese and is a polite, commonly used term for a domestic helper or caregiver. Depending on her experience and role, an Ayi may provide childcare, household help or a combination of services. xxxxxxxx

    Yuesao

    月嫂 [yuesao] means 'month carer' A Yuesao is a specialist who supports a mother and newborn after birth, traditionally during the first month. Services may include newborn care and practical postnatal support. The exact duties depend on the individual and the agreed arrangement.

    What is the difference between a nanny and an Ayi?

    A nanny generally focuses on childcare, while an Ayi may provide childcare, household support or both. In practice, responsibilities vary from person to person, so we help clarify duties and expectations before an arrangement begins.

    How does Ayi Matchmakers work?

    We start by understanding your family's needs, preferences and expectations. We then look for suitable candidates, help coordinate introductions and guide you through the next steps, including a trial where applicable.

    Do you provide full-time and part-time Ayis?

    Yes. We help families explore different arrangements, including full-time, part-time and other flexible domestic support, depending on their needs and candidate availability.

    Can I hire an Ayi temporarily?

    Yes. We help arrange temporary childcare and household support in Shanghai, subject to availability. This can include babysitting for an evening, a few days or a specific event.

    Do you work outside Shanghai?

    Shanghai is our main service area. However, we may be able to assist in other cities in China, depending on your location and requirements. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

    How long does it take to find an Ayi?

    The timeframe depends on your requirements, location, schedule and candidate availability. Temporary requests may require particularly early planning, so we recommend contacting us as soon as you know what you need.

    Do I get to interview candidates?

    Yes if you wish. We help coordinate introductions so you can speak with potential candidates, discuss expectations and assess whether the arrangement feels right before proceeding.

    Is there a trial period?

    A trial period is available for applicable arrangements, allowing both the family and the candidate to see whether the match works in practice. The details depend on the type of service and arrangement.

    How does your agency fee work?

    Our standard service fee covers a one-year contract, and is subject to a minimum fee for lower-hour part-time arrangements. The fee is payable after the trial period and is non-refundable. Temporary service fees are quoted individually. We will explain the applicable terms before you proceed.
